Steve Carey was raised in Ada, Michigan, and has the rare experience of serving in key policy positions in both the House and Senate Chambers of the U.S. Congress. With over 20 years of Capitol Hill and related federal experience, Steve Carey brings to Potomac Strategic Development a strong command of the appropriations and legislative process. He served as a Legislative Director for two Members of the House Appropriations Committee and as a legislative assistant to the Ranking Member of the House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee. Steve also enjoys the unique experience of serving as a Legislative Director in the United States Senate for a Member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and the Armed Services Committee. Steve is a trusted partner in business development, advocacy and communications for federal programs and projects on and off Capitol Hill for healthcare, defense, Homeland Security, infrastructure, aviation, high-tech, energy, and other programs.
With documented success in the federal legislative process in defense, homeland security, health care, biotechnology, infrastructure, and other key areas, Steve uses his broad experience to help his clients. Industry and not-for-profit organizations benefit from Steve’s guidance and his relationships with key lawmakers and policy officials in both parties, both Chambers of Congress, and three Administrations. Steve has been published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Steve served as the NCOIC of the Classified Material Control Center at MCAS Kaneohe and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. He is an alumnus of the University of Michigan, received his Eagle Scout award in the Gerald R. Ford Museum in downtown Grand Rapids, and remains active in the community. He is a black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate. Steve is married with two children.
